Supporting Parents & Caregivers
At Aboriginal Head Start, we believe supporting children means supporting the whole family. Our Family Support Workers (FSWs) are here to build relationships with parents and caregivers, recognize family strengths, and help families access supports and resources when needed.
How can a Family Support Worker help?
Family Support Workers can assist with:
Community resources
Food, clothing, housing, transportation, recreation and other basic needs.
Applications & paperwork
Helping families understand and complete forms for programs, benefits and services.
Advocacy & navigation
Supporting families when working with schools, agencies and community services.
Child & family supports
Connecting families with developmental, behavioural, health, mental health and other services.
Kindergarten transitions
Helping families prepare for school and explore available programs and supports.
Parenting & family support
A safe, non-judgmental space to discuss concerns, challenges and family goals.
Cultural & community connections
Connecting families with Indigenous resources, cultural opportunities and community programs.

Storypark: keeping families connected
Strong communication between families and the Aboriginal Head Start program is an important part of supporting every child’s learning, development and well-being.
To help keep families connected to their child’s program, Amiskwaciy Cultural Society uses Storypark, a secure online communication platform designed to strengthen the connection between home and Head Start.
What is Storypark?
Storypark provides families with an easy way to stay informed and connected with their child’s educators and program. Through Storypark, families can:
- Receive important program updates and reminders
- View photos and learning stories from their child’s day
- Learn more about classroom activities, routines and experiences
- Communicate directly with educators and program staff
- Share family celebrations, interests and learning happening at home
- Stay connected to their child’s learning and development
The Storypark Family App makes two-way communication simple and accessible, helping families and educators share information and work together to support each child.
Why we use Storypark
Families are children’s first and most important teachers. Storypark helps strengthen the partnership between home and program by creating another way for families to participate in their child’s Head Start experience.
Whether it is a classroom update, a special photo, a reminder about an upcoming activity, or something exciting your child has been learning at home, Storypark helps ensure families stay connected and informed.
A note about privacy
Storypark is used as an approved communication and documentation tool within our program. Families are asked to use the platform respectfully and to protect the privacy of children, families and staff. Sensitive or confidential matters are best discussed directly with program staff rather than through general posts or group communications.
