The Medicine Wheel

The four directions, the sacred medicines, the seasons and the stages of a life — and the seven teachings that hold them together.

A Medicine Wheel divided into four quadrants. East, in yellow: fire, tobacco, spring, mental health, birth and childhood. South, in red: earth, sweet grass, summer, physical health, youth and adolescence. West, in blue: water, sage, autumn, emotional health, adulthood and parents. North, in white: air and wind, cedar, winter, spiritual health, Elders and grandparents. At the centre, the mental and intellectual mind — resilience through self, family, community, Elders, society and healers. Around the outer ring are the seven teachings: bravery, humility, honesty, wisdom, love, truth and respect, with the bear, wolf, turtle and eagle at the four points.
